- Jeanne d’Arc – kiejtése [ʒan daʁk] –, Szent Johanna, (Domrémy, 1412. január 6. – Rouen, 1431. május 30.) az „orléans-i szűz”, katolikus szent, francia nemzeti hős. A százéves háború idején vezette a francia nép felszabadító harcát az angolok ellen. Parasztlányként látta meg a napvilágot Kelet-Franciaországban. A háborúban a francia királyi hadsereg élén több meghatározó győzelmet aratott, melyek megfordították a háború kimenetelét és lehetővé tették VII. Károly francia király trónra lépését. A burgundok elfogták, s az angolok kezére adták, akik mint boszorkányt vádolták be az egyházi hatóságnál. Ezt követően az egyházi törvényszék eretnekség vádjával elítélte, és 19 éves korában máglyán megégették. 24 évvel később, 1455-ben VII. Károly király – akinek hírnevét beárnyékolta, hogy koronáját egy elítélt eretnek segítségével szerezte – felkérte III. Kallixtusz pápát, vizsgáltassa felül a szentszék döntését. Az új eljárásban Johannát ártatlannak találták, és mártírrá nyilvánították. 1909-ben boldoggá, 1920-ban pedig szentté avatták. Johanna egyike Franciaország 9 védőszentjének; Párizsi Szent Dénes, Tours-i Szent Márton, Szent Lajos, Szent Mihály, Szent Remigius, Szent Petronella, Szent Radegunda és Lisieux-i Szent Teréz mellett.
