- Az Anakonda terv avagy Scott óriáskígyója elnevezést széles körben alkalmazták az amerikai polgárháborúban az elszakadt déli államok legyőzése céljából kidolgozott stratégiára. Kidolgozója Winfield Scott vezénylő tábornok volt, és a terv hangsúlyát a déli kikötők helyezte, melyet a Mississippi-folyó mentén való előrehatolás egészített ki a partvonalig. A blokád jellegénél fogva inkább passzív hadviselés lett volna, az intranzigens északi kisebbség hangosan gúnyolta és kárhoztatta. Ezek szóhasználatában a terv ahhoz hasonlított, mint mikor egy óriáskígyó körbecsavarodik áldozata körül és megfojtja, melyet a terv ellenzői tűrhetetlenül lassúnak találtak. A kígyó képzete ragadósnak bizonyult és azóta is népszerű megnevezése maradt a tervnek. (hu)
