- Jubal Anderson Early az amerikai polgárháború konföderációs, déli erőinek tábornoka volt. A háború folyamán végig a keleti hadszíntéren szolgált, először egy dandár élén, majd mint Stonewall Jackson, később Richard S. Ewell hadosztályparancsnoka, még később pedig önálló műveletekre képes hadtestparancsnokságot kapott. Early vezette az 1864-es , melynek keretében portyáján eljutott Washington határáig. Katonai pályafutása mellett sikeres jogi karrier állt mögötte. A polgárháború után előbb Mexikóba, majd Kanadába menekült. 1868-ban elnöki kegyelmet kapott és hazatért. Visszatért a jogi pályához és a „déli ügy” krónikása lett. Élete végéig a Konföderáció híve maradt. A által megjelentetett cikkei az 1870-es években naggyá növesztették mítoszát, s hosszan tartó irodalmi és kulturális jelenséget teremtettek. (hu)
