- A maja írás, vagy a maja hieroglifák a Kolumbusz előtti Közép-Amerika maja civilizációjának írásrendszere volt. Mára túlnyomórészt sikerült megfejteni. A maja írást alkalmazó legkorábbi feliratok az i. e. 3. századból találták a mai San Bartolomeo, Guatemala területén. Az írás folyamatosan használatban volt a spanyol konkvisztárodorok érkezéséig, illetve amíg spanyol hittérítők ki nem szorították azt a használatból. Az írás képírás-jelek és fonetikai tartalmú szótagjelek kombinációja, kissé hasonlóan a modern japán íráshoz. A korai európai utazók és kutatók hieroglifa-írásnak nevezték az egyiptomi íráshoz való hasonlósága miatt, de azzal egyáltalán nem áll rokonságban. (hu)
