- Nathan George "Shanks" Evans (Marion megye, Dél-Karolina, 1824. február 3. – , Alabama, 1868. november 23.) a West Point katonai akadémián végzett hivatásos katonatiszt volt. Szolgált az Egyesült Államok hadserege 2. lovassági ezredében századosi rangig emelkedve, majd az amerikai polgárháborúban az Amerikai Konföderációs Államok dandártábornoka lett. A háború elején agresszív csapatparancsnokként szerzett hírnevet, de az alkohol iránti vonzalma és gyenge interperszonális képességei azonban dandárparancsnoki beosztásnál magasabbra alkalmatlanná tették és bírósági ügyekké fajuló nézeteltérései beosztottaival és feletteseivel véget vetettek harctéri szereplésének. Tiszti karrierje a polgárháború után véget ért, s megélhetését iskolaigazgatóként biztosította. 2002-ben publikált családi levelezése egy másik oldalát mutatja, a szüleit, testvéreit, feleségét, gyermekeit és még távolabbi családtagjait is teljes szívéből szerető embert. 44 évesen, egy súlyos közúti baleset szövődményei következtében halt meg.
